INSPIRATION
While painting this piece, I kept hearing the phrase 'beauty for ashes' which it reminded me of my homeland, South Africa. Wildfires would often sweep through the mountains of the Eastern Cape, devastating the indigenous flora and fauna. The beautiful proteas would be completely destroyed, leaving behind what seemed like a hopeless wasteland.
But something remarkable would happen, within about four years, the proteas would return—more beautiful than ever. What I didn’t realize at the time was that the ashes from the fire enriched the soil, creating the perfect conditions for new growth and an incredible harvest.
This memory came back to me as I reflected on the recent California fires, a powerful reminder that beauty can rise from devastation.
And isn’t that true in our own lives? When we face loss, heartbreak, or seasons of destruction, it can feel like everything is ruined—like nothing good could possibly come from it. But just like the proteas, new life can emerge from the ashes. What seems hopeless can become the very ground where something even more beautiful grows.
No matter what you’ve been through, there is hope. Even in the hardest seasons, God is at work, turning what was meant for destruction into something full of life, strength, and beauty.

Original artwork always looks more stunning in person than in photographs. The photographing process inevitably loses certain details and subtle color variations. While every effort has been made to ensure accurate color representation, photographs may not capture the artwork’s full depth and richness.
